Liaison officers

When dealing with strategic computing issues - whether it is specifying standard or specialist hardware or software purchases, departmental networking requirements, or planning a major enhancement to departmental computing provision - all departments are expected to consult the IT Services.

For each department, there is a member of IT Services staff with appropriate knowledge and background, who is charged with departmental liaison. The Liaison Officer will also keep the department up-to-date with computer-related developments relevant to their discipline, and help them plan staff development for IT. Liaison Officers are not, however, responsible for dealing with day-to-day problems, which should be addressed to the IT Services Help Desk.

Formal liaison between IT Services and academic users is provided by the Academic Computing Group, which reports to the Academic Services Committee, and is responsible for making recommendations on policy and IT developments.
