1. About the Mulberry email client
Mulberry is an IMAP email client running on both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. Mulberry is available for use on staff computers, in IT Services facilities in the Rutherford Building and also available for home use by staff and students. Sets of Mulberry installation files are available on network drives so that staff can install the program for themselves to their computer. This is a simple procedure and can be done by staff themselves rather than calling on IT Services technicians to install. The installation procedure differs between the Windows and Macintosh computers. Sections 2 and 3 following give the details for each platform.

4. Running Mulberry for the first time
As part of the installation process Mulberry
creates both an entry for the program on the Windows Start Bar in the Programs
section and also a desktop shortcut indicated by a Mulberry flower.
For Macs, double click the MacintoshHD icon on the desktop, select Applications on the left hand side, and scroll down until you find the Mulberry icon.
Click on the Mulberry entry, via Start menu, or double-click the desktop icon to start the program.
On startup a login box will appear. Type in your IT Services username and password in the appropriate boxes and click OK. After a moment a list of all your mail folders on the College mail server will appear and your INBOX containing all your current messages open ready for reading.
If you can only see your INBOX, click the plus sign (Windows) or triangle (Macintosh) (with the folder and magnifying glass image) to the left of the word INBOX. This will show the other mailboxes available to you.
While Mulberry has been partially customized by Information Services staff to facilitate easy operation in the College environment certain program options will want to be set by the user as soon as possible. Program preferences settings are available from the File|Preferences (Windows) and Mulberry|Preferences (Macintosh) menu option. Select this and check that the values that appear in the boxes are correct.
- Real Name: enter your name
- Email address: should appear as initial.surname@gold.ac.uk (e.g. n.vekaria@gold.ac.uk, with no spaces between the various parts)
- IMAP User ID: should be your username used to access the College network (e.g. abs01yz)
- IMAP Server: should be imap.gold.ac.uk
- SMTP Server: should be post.gold.ac.uk:2525
If you made any changes, click the Save Default button and then OK to work with your email. Other preferences such as font faces, colour and size, personal signature and generic mailbox behaviour can also be set from the Preferences panel by selecting the Advanced settings button. Explore these options and change them to suit your way of working when you feel familiar with the program.
5. Further information on using Mulberry
Mulberry is fully supported by IT Services and all queries should be addressed to the Help Desk (ext 7555, helpdesk@gold.ac.uk).

If this is not already present you can obtain this at i:\sware\adobe. Just double-click the executable there to install it.
