The College's Laptop Network
Below is information on our existing laptop network. However, we are moving to a new system from November 2009. Please see information on how to connect using the new wireless network ('eduroam').
Introduction
Users with laptops are able to connect them to the College Network in some parts of the College using the Laptop Network. This facility gives the same access to the College Network as with a networked desktop computer. There are two ways of connecting:
Via the wireless network
this will be the method used by most people, as there are wireless access points in many parts of the campus
Via a cable connection
this will be available only in a few areas, mostly staff offices, using specially designated network sockets.
Please note that :
- You cannot plug a laptop into just any network socket
- If you are working in the RISB you can connect your laptop to the mains only using the white sockets marked "For laptop users"
Terms & Conditions
Regulations
All use of the Laptop Network is governed by College Regulations
Support
Computer Services cannot under any circumstances investigate or advise on problems in connecting the personal computer equipment of students and staff to the Laptop Network. If the system cannot register your computer, you cannot use the service.Departments who have problems connecting laptops which are the property of the College should report the problem to the IT Services Help Desk.
