Mario Di Paolantonio BA MA PhD

Visiting Research Fellow (Social Science Research Council of Canada)
University of York

Mario's current research grapples with how legal attempts to deal with past human rights abuses give shape and are themselves shaped by the contested and dynamic terrain of public memory. Drawing on social theory, discourse analysis, and cultural studies his work underscores the pedagogical-commemorative role that the law plays in transitional societies, particularly in the Southern Cone. Some relevant publications include: 'Tracking The Demand for Legal Recall: The Foreclosing and Promise of Law in Argentina?', Social & Legal Studies 13(3) 2004; 'Pedagogical Law and Abject Rage in Post-Trauma Society?', Cultural Values 5 (4) 2001; 'Loss in Present Terms?', in R. Simon, S. Rosenberg, C. Eppert (eds) Between Hope & Despair 2000.
