Computing: electronic resources

Recommended electronic resources

  • ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) Digital Library includes all magazines, journals and proceedings of the ACM, plus some publications by affiliated organisations. Access from within College only.
  • SDOL (Science Direct OnLine) gives full-text access to journals published by Elsevier, including former Academic Press titles, with some going back to 1997. Includes over 120 computing titles. Full-text access is indicated by a green icon, and ScienceDirect journals are included in the Library catalogue.
  • SpringerLink gives full-text access to over 1100 journals, mainly science, technology and medicine, but also humanities and social sciences, with backfiles to 1997. Includes over 100 computing titles. SpringerLink journals are not included in the Library catalogue.
  • JSTOR Arts and Science Collection is an archive of journals including some mathematics and statistics titles. The collection provides access to a complete back run of each journal, and is updated to a "moving wall" 2 to 5 years behind the most recently published issue.
  • Directory of open access journals lists peer-reviewed journals from around the world. In the "technology and engineering" section is a list of open access computing journals, and there is a "mathematics and statistics" section of titles. DOAJ titles are not included in the Library catalogue.

Access is direct within College, and with your Goldsmiths IT username and password off campus, unless stated otherwise. Further details can be found in the E-Journals section of the Library website. Many publishers also make contents pages freely available on their web pages.

Subject gateways

On-line indexes and abstracts

  • ISI Web of Knowledge provides online access to the multidisciplinary indexes produced by the Institute for Scientific Information Inc., USA, from 1981 to date, which include periodical articles and conference papers in computing.
  • OCLC FirstSearch has a collection of catalogues and indexes covering books, journal articles and conference papers and proceedings.
  • Zetoc is the British Library's electronic table of contents, from 1993 to date, covering about 20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published per year, in all subjects.

Other library catalogues

  • M25 Consortium of Higher Education Libraries gives local details and library catalogues of over 140 libraries from 39 higher education institutions within the M25 area. It includes the Union List of Serials (ULS) which enables a search of journals, periodicals and serials in all the University of London libraries and the University of Westminster, as well as InforM25, a union catalogue for cross-searching of library catalogues selectable by geographic zone and subject specialisation.
  • COPAC is the Consortium of University Research Libraries (CURL) union catalogue, which includes 24 of the largest university research libraries in the UK and Ireland, as well as the British Library and the National Library of Scotland.
