European Languages, Culture & Society: electronic resources

Library resources for language studies

The classification scheme used by the Library is the Dewey Decimal scheme. See below for useful class marks/locations for books, journals and audiovisual material.

There is a reference section on each floor of the library. Reference books relating to the language, anthropology, politics and economics of a country will be found on the first floor. Those relating to literature, art, music, film, theatre and history together with foreign language newspapers will be found on the second floor. Dictionaries are available in the reference sections on both floors.

Foreign language DVDs and videos are held in the audiovisual collection on the second floor. Check the library catalogue for their exact location.

Periodicals (journals) are arranged by classification number on both floors of the library. Those with numbers 000 to 699 cover psychology, social sciences, anthropology, politics, economics, education and languages and are on the first floor and those with numbers 700 to 999 cover arts, film, theatre, music, literature, theatre, history and geography and are on the second floor.

On-line indexes and abstracts

Provide facilities for searching for journal articles, usually using your Goldsmiths IT username and password, on a particular subject or subject area and are therefore a very useful way of getting up-to-date information.
