Performing Queer Selves: Intersubjectivity and the Affective Publics of Queer Performance

Vikki is a performer, activist and scholar working at the intersection of body theory, cultural studies and performance studies. Her current PhD research is focused on London’s queer performance club scene and the affective and intercorporeal communication occurring within these spaces, with particular reference to performances of queer femininity. Drawing on the concepts of auto- and performance ethnography, she has developed a creative and intuitive method of research that is able to engage with and respond to the subtleties of affect, subjectivity, belonging, performance and queer embodiment.

The research has been presented at various conferences, including Performance Studies International at the University of Utrecht, A Carnival of Feminist Cultural Activism at York University, and (Image)ining the Female Body at the University of Surrey. Vikki has also been invited to speak on the findings of her research at the ESRC Seminar Series on Fat Studies and Health at Every Size, The University of Brighton Social Science Forum and the Goldsmiths Literature Seminar (GLITS), and published extracts in Women and the Arts: Bodies of Work; a journal of the Arts Society Newnham College, Cambridge, and Dance Theatre Journal.

Vikki is an associate researcher with the AHRC research project Performance Matters: www.thisisperformancematters.co.uk.
