I teach journalism across both Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses.
I studied English Language and Literature at the University of Manchester and Journalism at City University. I am a practising journalist and publications I have written for include the Guardian, Independent, Daily Express, Financial Times, Sunday Times, New Statesman, Cosmopolitan, Easy Living, TES and THES. I mostly write features and opinion with some lifestyle and reviews, and particularly like writing about politics in an accessible way and also language, food and parenting.
I am the former editor of Fabian Review at the Fabian Society (2002-2004). I also co-edited the pamphlet Fabian Thinkers: Fifty Years of Progressive Thought (Fabian Society, 2004).
I have written two non-fiction books for adults - The Noughtie Girl’s Guide to Feminism (Oneworld Publications, 2009) and Fifty Campaigns to Shout About (Oneworld Publications, 2011). My first picture book for children is due to be published in May 2014 by Troika Books.
I have a special interest in teaching people how to come up with ideas.
