On the 70th anniversary of the Holocaust, a new app developed in partnership with Goldsmiths, University of London aims to provide new insights into the Holocaust and preserve the voices of survivors for future generations.

70 Voices: Victims, Perpetrators and Bystanders has been launched by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET), working with i2 media – a Department of Psychology spin-off company, based at Goldsmiths.

Each day, for a total of 70 days, the app will explore the Holocaust through 70 different voices – including victims, perpetrators, bystanders and other witnesses. This allows users to better understand the very individual and devastating impact that it had on the victims, as well as the mind-set of the perpetrators.

Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust said: “In this significant anniversary year, we want to give as many people as possible the opportunity to take a moment to learn something new about the Holocaust. We are always looking for new ways to reach people and this app puts that opportunity in the palm of their hands.”

Professor Jonathan Freeman, head of i2 media, adds: “The delivery of 70 Voices' content online and via iOS and Android apps is an important step in preserving and commemorating the Holocaust. It fits perfectly with the Holocaust Educational Trust's remit of educating young people.

“The digital delivery of the content enables a daily release of material, giving people time to read and reflect on what they read.  We’ve also incorporated a weekly podcast, reflecting on the content released over the previous week.  I am very pleased to have been able to help HET realise their vision."

70 Voices: Victims, Perpetrators and Bystanders is available as a free download through Google, Amazon and Apple’s app stores.
