"My love of learning was fostered and encouraged at Goldsmiths"

Main details

Year graduated 1994
Department Sociology
Occupation Wills & Probate Manager/Freelance Writer

"I was politically inspired and awakened at Goldsmiths by my Sociology tutors and continue to be an activist in social issues. I was Deputy Senior Student of the much-missed Rachel MacMillan Hall of Residence, and Housing & Welfare Officer of the Student Union, which gave me confidence in public speaking. Losing the election for the Welfare post the following year was a valuable lesson in defeat!

My love of learning was fostered and encouraged at Goldsmiths, and the research skills I developed (both educationally and in nascent activism) have been invaluable. The ability to evaluate myriad perspectives and assess them logically, and to recognise evidence and sources, has proven essential in my professional and personal life.

The college gave me the basic skills that I have used daily ever since in all aspects of my life. As well as working as a Wills and Probate Manager I also write for several feminist websites/groups and have been commissioned to write feminist-based prose by Knockback Magazine. I have recently given two guest talks for Year 10 pupils, discussing feminism and its relevance in the modern world. This was directly inspired by my tutors at Goldsmiths."
