This modular part-time programme is normally taken over two years. It prepares instrumentalists, composers and singers with a background in classical, jazz or popular music to work in the profession, or to continue higher education study. It gives you a thorough grounding in music theory and musicianship, including the study of composing and arranging in a variety of styles, and the development of practical skills in performing, improvising, musical direction and production. As well as offering the opportunity to progress to further study, the programme is also suitable for musicians working in a professional or semi-professional capacity who want to develop their musicianship and performing skills and theoretical knowledge.
You take two core courses, and choose from options in performance, arranging, composition, analysis and ensemble playing. You study at your own pace and choose options to suit your particular interests and circumstances.
The programme is equivalent to the first year of undergraduate study. It offers progression (subject to application and interview) to the second year of Goldsmiths’ Music degrees, or to other music degrees.
