Our programme of courses in Performing and Community Arts is well known for providing high quality training in drama, music and community arts including a range of part-time and full-time courses from beginners to post-graduate levels.
From performance ensembles and choirs to instrumental and vocal courses, from individual courses in composition, drama skills and music technology to accredited programmes in community music, theatre and music studies, and interdisciplinary arts practice we offer a variety of ways of developing your skills, giving you an opportunity for creating and performing alongside others, progressing to further training, or developing a career path in the arts.
We are a leading centre of the training for artists wishing to develop their work in a variety of community and social contexts. Our long established training programme for music workshop leaders is designed for those who want to pursue careers in community based music-making. It has a successful record in the profession of community arts with the great majority of students finding work as community musicians or in related fields. Our MA in Participatory and Community Arts is an innovative programme for practising artists, graduates and workshop leaders who recognise the field of arts in other sectors as a valid and practical way of developing creative and socially engaged career paths.
As part of the Centre for Lifelong Learning and Community Engagement our research focuses on the area of national and international arts practice engaging directly with the community and with questions regarding the role of arts and cultural activity in civil society.
