This course focuses on writing screen drama for cinema and TV. This involves lectures, viewings and practical exercises, and includes visual narrative, creating premises, structure, characterisation and rewriting. You bring in your own ideas-in-progress for tutor comment or class reading; you are encouraged to write directly for production. The first term begins with an introduction to different aspects of the subject; the course then follows a problem-led approach emphasising creative exercises and your own interests. By the second term, you start work on your own projects; during term three, there are workshops on students’ scripts.
