Student Project Fund

(£50 to £500)

The Department of Theatre and Performance Student Project Fund is designed to support our undergraduate and postgraduate students’ independent creative initiatives particularly those which take place outside the department, for example at festivals and external venues. The awards assist any student, or group of students, in a theatre or performance-related project. Students in the past have used the fund to help them take work out into professional and community contexts and to showcasing opportunities.

The department views extra-curricular work as a key learning opportunity for our student community. In addition to enabling students to experiment, innovate and develop their own artistic practice in wider contexts, these awards also facilitate significant personal and professional development and support significant connections with, and entry into, the theatre and cultural industries in the UK and abroad. We have a rich history of exciting and innovative student projects that have been awarded by the scheme.

Three awards are made each year:

  • Studio Gold – autumn term
  • Spring Sites and Encounters – spring term
  • Summer Festivals and Forays – summer term

To make an application, please see the criteria, information pack, guidance notes, and application form available on the Student Project Fund page of the VLE. The Student Project Fund is chaired by Francesca Greatorex.

For more information, please contact the department.

Graduate Project Fund

(£50 to £500)

The Department of Theatre and Performance Graduate Project Fund is designed to support our graduating students’ independent creative initiatives.

The fund assists a student or group of students who have recently graduated from the department in a theatre or performance-related project. For its first year, this Project Fund will be open to students who have graduated within the past three years. The scheme is an extension of the Student Project Fund, which for some years has with great success supported students taking their work out into professional and community environments.

The Deadline for Applications is 1 September 2021.

For more information, please contact the department.

Alumni and Friends fund

Do you have a project, idea, club, society, or an area of extracurricular work that requires financial support? If so, then the Alumni and Friends Fund could help you.

The Students’ Union is taking the reins of the Alumni and Friends Fund. Still supported by the generosity of alumni and friends, applications for funding will now be made to the Students’ Union. Students are eligible to apply for funding to be disbursed twice a year – at the beginning of the autumn and spring terms.

Please contact the Societies Coordinator at the Students’ Union for more information.
