We offer a range of funding options for postgraduate students.

The following options have already been announced for 2017 entry. You can also find out about our international scholarships.

Please note that Master of Research, Postgraduate Research and PhD programmes are not eligible for the funding provided in the following list. Find out about research funding.

Goldsmiths Masters Scholarships

Award value

30 x £1,000 awards

(£1000 for full-time students and part-time students. Part-time students will receive £1000 over 2 years)

Eligibility

Home and EU students (full-time and part-time).

How to apply

Applications open 27 March 2017

Deadline for applications is 2 May 2017 12pm midday (GMT).

Your scholarship application should be completed online through your myGoldsmiths account. This is the online account that you created in order to apply for a course at Goldsmiths.

As part of the application, you will be asked to answer three questions relevant to the award that you are applying for. Our scholarships are highly competitive, so it is important to include as much detailed information as you can.

Supporting documents

We require the following supporting documents in order for your scholarship application to be considered:

  • Photocopies of official college or university degree certificates and transcripts
  • Two academic references relating to your current or most recent course, or professional references if appropriate

If you already provided these as part of your course application, then it will not be necessary for you to upload any additional documents as part of your scholarship application. 

 

Goldsmiths Excellence Fee Waiver

Award value

30% fee discount to home/EU students, and the equivalent amount in pounds sterling to international students.

Eligibility

Home, EU and international students (full-time and part-time) with a first class honours degree from a British higher education institution, applying for taught Masters programmes.

How to apply

The fee discount will be applied automatically.

Please note: this cannot be combined with the Goldsmiths Alumni Fee Waiver

Goldsmiths Alumni Fee Waiver

Award value

30% fee discount to home/EU alumni, and the equivalent amount in pounds sterling to international alumni.

Eligibility

Home, EU and international students (full-time and part-time), including Study Abroad and LaSalle students, who are Goldsmiths graduates. Graduates of the University of London International Programmes who have been awarded a BA in English, a BSc in Computing and Information Systems or a BSc in Creative Computing. 

Those applying for taught Masters programmes are eligible.

How to apply

The fee discount will be applied automatically.

Please note: this cannot be combined with the Goldsmiths Excellence Fee Waiver.

The Goldsmiths' Company Postgraduate Bursaries

Award value

1 x £4,000 awards, available from the Goldsmiths' Company as a partial fee waiver.

Eligibility

Students on taught postgraduate programmes (not including MA Filmmaking or PGCEs) starting October 2017. You must be: a UK student; new to postgraduate study; experiencing financial difficulties. You should also demonstrate academic potential and you must not be in receipt of any Goldsmiths, AHRC or ESRC funding.

Banco Santander Scholarships

Award value

7 x £5,000

In partnership with Banco Santander, Goldsmiths will be awarding seven scholarships to outstanding candidates from within the Santander Universidades network. Each scholarship provides a £5,000 fee waiver and is tenable for one year only. 

Eligibility

Scholarships will be open to students applying to study a taught masters degree (excludes MRes and Masters by Research) in any discipline starting in September 2017. The countries targeted (although not exclusively, should exceptional candidates apply from other eligible countries*) will be:

  • Mexico
  • Brazil
  • Colombia
  • China

* The Santander Universidades scheme covers institutions in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Ghana, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, United Arab Emirates, UK, Uruguay and USA.

To be eligible to apply you must:

  • have applied for a place on a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree
  • have an international fee liability
  • be self-financing to some extent
  • be a national from and residing in one of the above listed countries

You will also need to demonstrate academic excellence and / or significant achievement in your chosen field of study.

Please note that students who have already started their degree are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. A scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.

1x full Home/EU fee waiver worth £4,000 per annum for three years for a full time student studying the MPhil/PhD in Media and Communications.

Stuart Hall Scholarships

This scholarship is available through the Media and Communications Department and is for a student studying the MPhil/PhD in Media and Communications.

It is awarded in partnership with the Stuart Hall Foundation in memory of Stuart Hall, a uniquely gifted teacher, cultural analyst and public intellectual. Hall was internationally recognised as the leading figure in the field of cultural studies and the Professor Stuart Hall Building, which houses the Media and Communications Department, was named in his honour in November 2014. These scholarships are intended to contribute to the College’s commitment to widening participation. 

You will be awarded a full Home/EU fee waiver worth £4,000 per annum for three years for a full time student. 

You must first be offered a place on the course to be eligible to apply.

Application is by letter stating why you should be considered for the scholarship, what difference receiving the scholarship would make to your plans and what contribution they would like to make in the future.

Goldsmiths International Response Scholarship

Award Value

3 x awards for postgraduate students who meet the eligibility criteria. The awards include:

  • Accommodation fee waiver
  • £11,400 for each year of study
  • Tuition fee waiver

Eligibility

You must have received an offer of a place on a full-time undergraduate or full time postgraduate taught programme starting September 2017. You will also need to demonstrate academic excellence and/or significant achievement in your chosen field of study.

Eligibility Criteria

Students applying for this award must:

  • Be holding an offer of full time study in either a Postgraduate or Undergraduate programme commencing September 2017
  • Be declared as refugee or asylum seeker on your application, or have been granted limited leave as the result of an asylum application or human rights application.
  • Be an International student
  • Be undertaking your first undergraduate/postgraduate degree
  • Demonstrate strong academic potential
  • Applicants must have a letter from the UK Government confirming refugee/asylum status in the UK. This document must be uploaded to your My Goldsmiths account when you submit your application. Applications will not be considered if you do not provide evidence of your status in the UK

Please note, applicants will have to meet all of the eligibility criteria to be considered for the awards.

To apply for our scholarships and bursaries you'll first need to set up a MyGoldsmiths account. Please see our advice and guidance on how to create your MyGoldsmiths account.

When to apply

There is no official deadline for this scholarship, however we encourage you to apply early to avoid disappointment.

Further information

  • Applicants must have a letter from the UK Government confirming refugee/asylum status in the UK. This document must be uploaded to your My Goldsmiths account when you submit your application. Applications will not be considered if you do not provide evidence of your status in the UK
  • You may use up to 1500 characters for each question on the application form
  • Only completed applications will be accepted, supporting documentation will not be accepted after the deadline
  • No applications will be accepted after the application closing date
  • Applicants for undergraduate programmes will not be considered if they already hold an undergraduate degree
  • Applicants for postgraduate programmes will not be considered if they already hold postgraduate degree

Aziz Foundation Scholarships at Goldsmiths, University of London

Developing Community Services Professionals from British Muslim Communities

Aziz Foundation is an independent grant-making body dedicated to supporting the most disadvantaged communities in Britain. It strives to do this through supporting community empowerment and leadership development in these communities, and greater public engagement by them in wider society. The Foundation is offering two Masters Scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Award value

The scholarship covers tuition and living expenses for a year, up to a maximum of £25,000

Eligibility

Applicants should meet all the following requirements:

  • Have or be expected to achieve an upper second class or equivalent undergraduate degree from a reputable, internationally recognised university, such that an offer from Goldsmiths for postgraduate study is likely to be made.
  • Be active within their local and/or faith community and demonstrate a desire to develop intellectual skills within a multi-faith/secular environment.
  • Be able to demonstrate long-term commitment to community/societal development and good relations work through effecting community service.
  • Be eligible for Home fee status at Goldsmiths.
