The programme does not offer clinical training, but does give you the opportunity to concentrate on your particular area of research interest, which can include a clinical focus. It is also an appropriate preparation for practitioners and graduates intending to carry out doctoral research within the field.

What you study

The programme is lecture/seminar-based with contributions from Goldsmiths staff and visiting specialists. Interrelated courses will: introduce you to the history of psychoanalytic concepts and contemporary debate, including theories about personality, psyche and psychopathy; consider the ways in which psychoanalytic perceptions have informed our understanding of contemporary social and cultural issues; examine psychoanalysis in clinical practice, drawing attention to the way in which psychoanalytic ideas have affected a range of health and community interventions; address the formulation of research problems and various methods of research. You also produce a dissertation.

Assessment

The programme is continuously assessed. The final examination is based on four essays, a report on research methods, and a dissertation.
