MH Sarkis

Student work

Sarkis is a Lagos-raised, London-born Lebanese artist; her work continually crosses borders and has been exhibited across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

She is based in London and is currently on the Goldsmiths MFA Fine Art programme. She has taken part in the 2018 Shape Open (supported by Yinka Shonibare MBE) and has been featured on the Saatchi Art platform. Recent shows include "2068" at SPACE in Hackney, London.

MH Sarkis (b. 1990) explores ideas of female subjectivities, dyadic relationships, and soft power within frameworks of potential posthumanisms and techno-utopias (or dystopias). Via an organic incorporation of responsive robotics and elementary machine learning, her practice weaves these concepts together with a lightness of touch, at times self-deprecating.

This artwork is called MODULE Nº 1 [SPROUT], and is an initial configuration, one module of many – a growth that will mutate into an exponentially larger installation, engulfing a whole room.

Mixed new media installation (hand-tufted rug, steel, robotics, touch-responsive technology)
Approx 200 x 250 x 50cm
