Introduction

The MSc Computer Games and Entertainment was launched in September 2008. It offers a unique curriculum for graduates and professionals in various fields who either want to enter the computer games and entertainment industries, or want to upgrade their present knowledge and skills on the basis of their experience in such industries.

The MSc is focused on advanced programming in C++, team work, new technologies (procedural processing, multicore platforms, AI in games, new UIs and sensors (such as laser scanners, kinect, stereo camera rigs). It integrates state-of-the-art technologies in its lab and course work: games engine, consoles (PSP, PS3), mobile platforms (iPhone, Android), and more.

The MSc is directed and taught by experts in R&D (in graphics, geometry, AI, hard-core processing), in the games and entertainment industries (more than half our faculty members have either run, funded companies, or worked in them), and visiting tutors who are actively involved in these industries.

Entrance requirements

We welcome applications from people with diverse intellectual backgrounds but whose interests focus on the general area of computer games and entertainment. You should normally hold, or expect to hold, a first degree of at least upper second standard in an appropriate subject (including good programming skills and knowledge).

Normally we will consider candidates with a degree in computing, engineering, maths or another scientific discipline; applicants either with extensive professional experience (including computing) in the games or creative industries or applicants from the arts, design, with some relevant professional experience (including programming) may be considered.

Candidate students will be required to demonstrate a good level of programming knowledge in a major language (eg C, C++ or Java). This may be verified by either a test or an interview with a practical request of implementing some well-known method or algorithm.

Applications from EU and international students are welcomed. If your native language is not English, you should have achieved a minimum score of 6.5 in the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) or equivalent. Find out more about our English Language requirements.
