Scholarships, bursaries and fee waivers for PGCE students

We're offering the following scholarships, bursaries and fee waivers for new PGCE students starting in September 2017. These offer additional financial support for your studies, and they don't have to be paid back.

Application open 3 April 2017


Initial Teacher Education Lewisham & Greenwich Student Fee Waivers 

Up to 3 x £9,000 fee waivers, available to PGCE students from Lewisham and Greenwich.

You must: 

  • be a current resident of the London Borough of Lewisham or Greenwich
  • have lived in either Lewisham or Greenwich for a minimum of three years prior to application
  • Verification of your residency in the London Borough of Lewisham and Greenwich for a minimum of three years prior to application. We'll accept a variety of documents including the following:
    • Council tax invoice statement for the last 3 years
    • Letter from your local borough or housing officer from the last 3 years
    • Rent/mortgage statement for the last 3 years
    • Letter/statement from your bank or utility provider including the opening date of your account with them
  • Evidence is required for each year you have been in residence i.e 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017
  • If you do not produce proof of residency at the time your application is submitted your application will not be processed.
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths, starting September 2017
  • demonstrate academic merit
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees

How do I apply?

First you'll need to have applied for one of our PGCE programmes.

You'll then need to register for a MyGoldsmiths online account. Once you've set up an account you can complete and submit a scholarship/bursary application online. Please use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser when submitting your application.

You should receive your PIN via email by 27 March. If you haven't received an email with your PIN number to create your MyGoldsmiths account and wish to apply for the scholarship, please email money@gold.ac.uk no later than Thursday 27 April 2017 at 5pm.

Unfortunately we can't accept any PIN requests after this time, so don't delay!


Initial Teacher Education Mature Student Bursaries 

Up to 3 x £3,000 cash bursaries for PGCE students over the age of 40 who come from a non-traditional academic background and show great academic potential. 

You must:

  • be a UK national or have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years prior to application
  • be aged 40 or over whilst studying on our PGCE programme
  • Submit a birth certificate, passport or driver's licence as proof of age
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths, starting September 2017
  • demonstrate academic merit
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees

How do I apply?

First you'll need to have applied for one of our PGCE programmes.

You'll then need to register for a MyGoldsmiths online account. Once you've set up an account you can complete and submit a scholarship/bursary application online. Please use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox as your web browser when submitting your application.

Initial Teacher Education Male Primary Teacher Bursaries 

Up to 2 x £3,000 bursaries for male PGCE Primary students who demonstrate academic potential.

You must:

  • be a UK national or have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years prior to application
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths, starting September 2017
  • demonstrate academic merit
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees

Initial Teacher Education Care Leaver Bursaries

Up to 2 x £4,000 bursaries for PGCE students who are care leavers. 

You must:

  • be a care leaver (someone who has been in the Care of your Local Authority for a period of 13 weeks or more, including during your 16th birthday)
  • have disclosed yourself as a care leaver on your GTTR application
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths, starting September 2017
  • be a UK national or have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years prior to application
  • be under the age of 25 at the start of the PGCE
  • You must submit a statement/letter from your Local Authority stating that you have been in care of your Local Authority for a period of 13 weeks or more including during your 16th birthday 

These awards are available as either a cash bursary or 'in kind' support (eg for accommodation costs, computing equipment, books).

Initial Teacher Education Disabled Student Bursaries 

Up to 2 x £4,500 cash bursaries for PGCE students with a disability. 

You must: 

  • be a UK national or have been resident in the UK for a minimum of three years prior to application
  • have a recognised disability that has affected your educational life
  • have disclosed your disability on your GTTR application
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths, starting September 2017
  • demonstrate academic merit
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees

Priority will be given to students demonstrating some or all of the following:

  • that your disability will lead to increased costs associated with studying at Goldsmiths
  • that these costs are unlikely to be covered by funding available to you (for example all disabled students will be expected to apply for Disabled Students Allowance)
  • that your disability has affected previous study and/or previous opportunities in general
  • that you will use the funding to enhance the inclusion of you and/or other disabled students
  • that you are facing financial hardship prior to starting the programme at Goldsmiths
