Research interests
One of my passions is the interaction of Chinese people in their spaces. Whilst always the "other" within that culture my research focus involves “strolling” through urban street life, "everydayness" in popular culture and how traditional activities are adapted to allow for contemporary artefacts. My own snapshots, vintage photographs and use of secondary visual materials contribute to a collage narrating the life of the humorous nobody’s memories and experiences in urban China. Action and reaction at the grassroots level offers a cultural, historical perspective juxtaposed to existing hierarchies top-down political planning of cities.
