Department of Psychology

How do I apply?

In November 2011 Goldsmiths moved to an online system for postgraduate applications.

All applicants must register on this College system and apply by completing sections on their personal details, academic background, research proposal, personal statement and referee details etc. All applicants must ALSO complete and upload the Psychology MPhil/PhD entry form onto the College system. Where sections on College and Psychology Department forms elicit the same information (e.g. research proposal) this can be duplicated across the forms.  Additional information required on the Psychology Department application form is as follows:

An approximate timeline of training and research plans and an outline of a previous research project in which you have played a leading role (for instance, a study you conducted for your undergraduate or MSc degree). The personal statement in the Departmental form will be structured in a different way to that on the College form.  Please see guidelines on the form itself. Finally, your supervisor will be required to provide a statement detailing ways in which the project fits into their overall research programme and the wider research interests and facilities of the Department.   Guidance on how to structure these is given on the form.  Please do not exceed the word length, and DO NOT submit additional material emanating from your previous research (e.g. copies of dissertations, published papers) as this will not be read.  Note that all aspects of the application are required for an application to be considered.

Students applying to the London Social Science ESRC Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) must also complete a DTC application and upload this onto the College system along with the Department application form. Please note that the timeline for decisions concerning DTC studentships is very short, we therefore require applicants to upload two references along with their DTC application form.

For any enquiries, please contact the Department of Psychology’s MPhil/PhD Admissions Tutor, Professor Pamela Heaton (p.heaton@gold.ac.uk) or the Director PG Training, Dr Karina Linnell (k.j.linnell@gold.ac.uk).
