Research interests

My research focuses on the psychology of Entrepreneurship. Specifically, I am interested in the person, or people, behind entrepreneurial activity. The aim of my research is to capture the entrepreneurial personality - what it is, how it develops, and what entrepreneurial people do and achieve. To this end, I have developed a psychometric Measure of Entrepreneurial Tendencies and Abilities (META; Ahmetoglu & Chamorro-Premuzic, 2010) – it a persons entrepreneurial potential. This theory driven test is currently being validated. The results so far (based on a sample of N > 4000) show evidence for its incremental validity in predicting entrepreneurial activity, beyond traditional personality and ability measures, such as the Big Five, IQ, EQ, Creativity (divergent thinking), vocational interests (RIASEC), Core Self-Evaluations, and "Dark Side" traits. We are also validating the measure in high-stake settings and the results are encouraging.

Take the test and see how entrepreneurial you are in an instant:

A Situational Judgement Test version of the META (META-SJT; Ahmetoglu & Chamorro-Premuzic, 2011) has also been developed and the construct validation process is due to start in December 2011.

My other research areas include leadership, personality and intelligence, romantic relationships, and consumer psychology. In regards to the latter, I am particularly interested in pricing strategies, how consumers make decisions at the point of purchase, and what internal and external factors influence their decisions. This can include examining the influence of cognitive biases, memory, and attention, as well as framing effects, priming effects, and other environmental influences on these decisions.
