Kelly Jakubowski

My research interests include several aspects of musical memory, including memory for melodies and the phenomenon of involuntary musical imagery or “earworms.” I have also conducted research on absolute pitch (the rare ability to label single pitches instantaneously by name) and emotional responses to music. My PhD research was part of a Leverhulme Trust-funded project in which I worked on developing new behavioural and computational methods for investigating the genesis, content, and possible functions of the “earworm” experience.

I can supervise projects in the area of music psychology, specifically related to memory for melodies, “earworms” (e.g., when and why we get tunes stuck in our heads), absolute pitch (the rare ability to label single pitches instantaneously by name), and emotional responses to music.
