1.1 The following definitions shall apply throughout these Regulations.
1.2 An 'academic year' means three University terms.
1.3 A 'month' means a calendar month.
1.4 A 'calendar year' means any inclusive period of twelve months.
1.5 An 'overseas student' is one assessed to be ineligible to pay tuition fees at the lower rate paid by United Kingdom and European Union students.
1.6 A 'full-time student' means a student enrolled full-time at the College, who is following a programme of study or research normally involving fifteen hours or more per week of prescribed attendance or activities during term.
1.7 A 'part-time student' means a student enrolled part-time at the College, who is on a programme of study or research normally involving less than twenty-one hours per week of prescribed attendance or activities during term.
1.8 An 'Associate Graduate Student' of the College shall be a student who is enrolled at the College as following a programme of study which has been approved by the College as affording Associate Graduate Status.
1.9 An 'Associate Research Student' of the College shall be a student who is enrolled at the College as following a programme of research which has been approved by the College as affording Associate Research Status.
1.10 A 'research (completion status) student' means a student who has completed the minimum specified period of study for a research degree, and who has been awarded completion status, normally for a period of six months, on the recommendation of the Head of the relevant Department and the Departmental Postgraduate Committee and the agreement of the Academic Registrar.
1.11 A 'programme interrupted student' means a student retaining the right of re-entry to an uncompleted programme of study but whose programme is interrupted for an acceptable reason.
1.12 A 'Visiting Student' means a student who is enrolled as a full-time student for a period of up to one academic year at a time, whose courses are fully recognised as creditworthy by his or her home university or similar institution.
1.13 An 'Occasional Student' of the College shall be a student who is enrolled at the College as attending courses which do not constitute a full programme of study and who has been awarded occasional student status.
1.14 A 'Graduate or Registered Teacher' means a student who is registered with the College, as the recommending body, for a programme of training leading to Qualified Teacher Status.
1.15 An 'Associate Borrower' in the Library is a student, formerly studying on a programme of study or research at the College, but who is re-taking examinations or completing other elements of assessed work and who, on payment of the appropriate fee, has access to the College Library, or a student taking a non-award bearing course lasting for at least one term at the College, or an external borrower admitted at the discretion of the Librarian.
1.16 An 'Associate IT Services User' is a student who is re-taking examinations and who is not enrolled as a full-time or part-time student of the College but who, on payment of the appropriate fee, has access to College computing facilities.
1.17 'Premises' means the room let or licensed to the student.
1.18 'Shared facilities' means any kitchen, bathroom, living areas or other areas which students of the premises are entitled to use in common with other students.
1.19 'Communal areas' means those parts of the College buildings and grounds which students are entitled to use in common with each other.
1.20 'College buildings or grounds' means all the buildings and grounds owned and/or managed by the College.
1.21 'College accommodation' means those parts of the College buildings or grounds which are licensed to students as residential premises.
1.22 'Accommodation' means the accommodation referred to in the Accommodation Agreement.
1.23 'Manager' means the person appointed by the College to administer the accommodation and to enforce the Regulations relating to halls of residence on behalf of the College.
