Regulation 30: Determination of term dates

30.1 General

30.1.1 If exceptionally, because of the dates of public holidays, the formula for determining term dates has to be varied, the Academic Board shall be informed.

30.1.2 No change in the formula for the determination of term dates may otherwise be made until approved by the Academic Board or, in the case of urgency, its Chair.

30.2 Undergraduate Degree Programmes

All undergraduate degree programmes shall be subject to a formula for determining term dates which shall be two 11-week terms followed by one 8-week term.

30.3 Master's Programmes

All Master's programmes run for a calendar year. The last day of their final term is therefore the Friday before the start of the next academic year.

30.4 Postgraduate Research Programmes

Such programmes will last a full year and term dates are not applicable to them. Holidays (including public holidays) not exceeding eight weeks a year will be granted.

30.5 Certificates and Diplomas

College certificates and diplomas follow general term dates unless specified otherwise on an individual basis by the relevant department.

30.6 Postgraduate Certificate in Education Programmes

Postgraduate programmes of initial teacher training shall comply with whatever the current governmental directive may be concerning length of period of study, and amount of time spent in school.
