Regulation 7: Indebtedness to the College

7.1 A student who is indebted in any way to the College may not be an enrolled student of the College, or enter any examination for any programme offered by the College, until the sum owing has been paid in full, unless, in a case of proven hardship, an alternative arrangement for payment has been made with the agreement of the Academic Registrar.

7.2 Students who are in the final year of a programme and are indebted in any way to the College, and who have taken their final examination, shall not be issued with formal certification of the results of that examination until they have paid the whole sum owing, or, in a case of proven hardship, an alternative arrangement for payment has been agreed by the Academic Registrar.

7.3 A student participating in an exchange programme, or other programme involving study abroad, shall be liable to the College for:

  1. any debt to the host institution, or to any residence and accommodation office, which is incurred as a result of the period of study and which remains undischarged at the end of that period
  2. any payment which the College is required to make to a grant-awarding body on behalf of the student because of the failure of the student to abide by the terms of any award which he or she has accepted
  3. any costs and charges reasonably incurred by the College in settling any such debt or debts.

7.4 Departmental Senior Tutors shall advise on initial application for hardship loans and forward the applications to the appropriate officer. Debts and arrangements for payment shall also be so processed. Hall fee debts shall be handled by the Head of Residences, Catering and Conference Services, in conjunction with the Director of Finance who shall inform the Academic Registrar of any students in debt.

7.5 The Departmental Senior Tutor may be consulted by a student in serious financial difficulties.
