Regulation 26: Prizes

26.1 College Prizes

26.1.1 College Prize funds shall be deployed as follows:

  1. Barnard and Hails Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final examination for the BMus degree
  2. Cons Memorial Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final examination for the BA degree in Anthropology
  3. Nancy Bernays and Nancy Catty Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final Honours examination for the BA (Ed) degree
  4. Psychology Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final examination for the BSc degree in Psychology
  5. Sanchia Gosztonyi Prize
    For a final year student reading for a BA Sociology degree, or a combined subject degree including Sociology, nominated by the Head of Department as having contributed most to the public good
  6. Stanley Hails Memorial Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final examination for the BSc degree in Mathematics
  7. Winifred Hyde Prize
    For the best performance annually in the final examination for the BA degree in English.

26.1.2 The George Thomas Blunden Travel Award is open on a competitive basis, to one or two full-time students who plan to travel during the summer vacation in connection with a project of cultural or intellectual value.

26.1.3 The Nicholas and Andrei Tooth Travelling Scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to a final year student of Fine Art to enable him or her to travel for up to six months at the end of the degree programme prior to returning to mount an exhibition at the College.

26.1.4 The prize scheme shall incorporate the following principles:

26.1.4.1 In the case of every award it shall be understood that, in the event of the cessation of the particular discipline, it will continue to be given on similar terms for the nearest practical academic alternative.

26.1.4.2 Any additional accrued interest shall be added to capital with the object of reviewing periodically (at least quinquennially) the value of each prize. The capital shall not be expended.

26.1.4.3 There shall be an annual review to ensure that the portfolio of prize funds is as profitably invested as is compatible with security.
