Our free Summer Schools are an inclusive, empowering and experimental space for you to explore and develop your creativity and confidence while gaining an invaluable experience of university life.

You will be taught in small groups by enthusiastic academics with significant experience in their field alongside talented current students. We wish for our Summer Schools to be a fantastic opportunity for you to explore and consider your next steps to higher education.

Our Summer Schools for 2016 are:

  • Fine Art (Applications are now closed) - Monday 4th – Thursday 14th July (excluding Monday 11th)
  • Media (Animation and Illustration) - Monday 4th – Friday 8th July
  • Music - Monday 4th – Friday 8th July
  • Theatre and Performance - Monday 4th – Friday 8th July

Need to know

In order to apply for our Summer Schools you must be

  • currently studying in the UK
  • aged 16-25

All our Summer Schools are free and non-residential and therefore students will be expected to travel daily to and from Goldsmiths University.

Most days will run from 9:30am – 4:45pm and lunch will be provided. Some summer schools will run evening activities, such as a trip to the theatre or an art gallery and therefore times may vary.

If you are considering applying to Media, Music or Theatre and Performance, you will be expected to take part in your final public performance on Friday 8th July from 6:15pm - 7:30pm.

These Summer Schools are funded through our widening access initiatives at Goldsmiths and such we strongly welcome applications from students who would be the first in their family to go to university, care leavers and students with a disability.

Things you will need to complete the form: 

Media Applicants
Video links or photographs of your work, (preferably no more than 3 minutes long).

Fine Art Applicants
Up to five photographs/links to any of your works.

Fine Art Summer School

Monday 4th July – Thursday 14th July 2016 (excluding Monday 11th)

You will explore different art forms such as photography, painting, film and sculpture in your own Goldsmiths studio while working alongside other artists and Goldsmiths students. You will also attend various ‘artist talks’ from practicing artists, to discover what it takes to become a professional artist.

The Summer School will also visit local galleries, looking at local artists and how art is created from the local community. Your practical creations will lead to a final exhibition of your work at Goldsmiths on Thursday 14th July. This will be open to the public from 16:30 – 18:00.

Things to note:

Interviews for the Goldsmiths Fine Art Summer School will take place during May.

Monday 4th July will be an ‘introduction day’ and run from 10am until 1pm only.

Friday 8th will consist of a gallery tour, transport will be paid for on this day.

 

Media Summer School (Animation & Illustration)

Monday 4th – Friday 8th July 2016

You'll gain experience of working in a state-of-the-art media suite while working alongside experienced animators, filmmakers and illustrators to produce a 1-2 minute animation using illustration and stop-motion techniques. Over the week you will research into a given topic with follow Summer School students, sharing best practice and developing ideas together. Goldsmiths boasts some of the most up-to-date media workspaces, with world-leading teaching and you will have the time and guidance to develop your practice with these fantastic facilities.

Your final piece will form part of the end of Summer School showcase on Friday 8th July from 6:15pm - 7:30pm. Have a look at the video to see what fantastic animations students produced on last years Media Summer School.

 

Music Summer School

Monday 4th- Friday 8th July 2016

Enjoy a week of practical music making, workshops and a range of tasters (film music, music technology and more) led by our Goldsmiths Music Lecturers. During the Summer School, you will develop your practical skills as a performer, songwriter and composer throughout the week.

Students looked into a wide variety of musical genres in order to develop and grow musical understanding. Your final piece will form part of the end of Summer School showcase on Friday 8th July from 6:15pm - 7:30pm. We plan to record your final performance, allowing you to take home your performance to show your friends and family.

Theatre and Performance Summer School

Monday 4th – Friday 8th July 2016

Theatre and Performance summer school at Goldsmiths which will involve teaching from professional actors, academics and the opportunity to work alongside Goldsmiths undergraduate drama students.   

Participants in this summer school can test their abilities and experiment while learning new skills and different approaches to performance. Throughout the summer school we will be joined be a variety of exciting professional performers who will run specialised workshops in a variety of different areas to increase your theoretical and practical skills. We will also adventure into London for an evening performance at a local theatre company, allowing you to see theatre in action.
