Short course: Mandarin Chinese - intermediate

This course will continue to work on basic sentence patterns, grammar and means of expression to better enhance the mandarin learnt so far.

Course description

This course is for those who have completed beginners Chinese or who already have a good command of around 200 characters.

Intermediate Chinese further builds upon the vocabulary and language elements of beginners Chinese to give students a working knowledge.

Upon successful completion of Mandarin Chinese Intermediate III, you will be able to read and write around 600 characters. Students completing this course will have a good understanding of Chinese Grammar and sentence structure and begin to form more complex sentences in conversation.

Classes level

Three different levels for Mandarin Chinese Intermediate classes provided: Intermediate I, II & III.

For the student who is new to us Institution Goldsmiths and wish to join the intermediate Mandarin Chinese class, you will need to have your level assessed before the class start. Assessment is a free and informal session with one of our Mandarin teachers. Please contact the office to arrange an assessment by email at confucius (@gold.ac.uk).

For continuous students, to be able to join Intermediate II or III, you need to have completed Intermediate I level course in Mandarin Chinese at Confucius Institution Goldsmiths or have an equivalent knowledge.

The progression route from Mandarin Chinese Intermediate I is to Chinese Intermediate II; from Intermediate II to Intermediate III. Upon successful completion of Chinese Intermediate III you will be able to progress to an Advanced level course in Chinese Mandarin.
