Short course: Chinese music - Erhu (Chinese fiddle)
The Erhu is a two stringed bowed instrument with a beautifully characteristic haunting sound quality and is most famously used in the sound track to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon.

Course description
This course is for anyone who has an interest in music or Chinese culture. If you are a beginner in studying music, our professional music instructor will guide you through the basics.
The Chinese fiddle or Erhu is thought to have evolved from an earlier instrument known as a Xiqin which originated in central Asia over 1,000 years ago.
For those with some experience with string instruments, there is an opportunity to progress more quickly and eventually have the opportunity to perform at live events with Goldsmiths Confucius Institute.
Students will have the opportunity to learn a range of traditional Chinese instrumental music tailored to their level. Examples of songs studied include:
- Happy boy 《快乐的少年》(beginner)
- Jasmine flower 《 茉莉花》(beginner)
- Beautiful Night《良宵》(intermediate)
- Horse Racing 《赛马》(intermediate)
- Ripe Grapes《葡萄熟了》(advanced)
- Galloping War-Horse《战马奔腾》(advanced)
- The Moon Over a Fountain《二泉映月》(advanced)
