Food Matters - Who we are

Dr Emma Uprichard is especially interested in the methodological aspects of this study because she has a longstanding interest in the methodological challenge of studying change. She explored urban change in York (and Dijon) for her doctoral thesis, so the Food Matters project will add an additional layer to her understanding of York as a complex city.

Paul Chappell's doctoral thesis explores changes in food choices and eating practices at a national level. His research involves the use of secondary quantitative data, namely the 1970 British Birth Cohort Study. Paul's aim is to use this longitudinal resource to examine how food and eating has changed in the UK since 1970. He has a particular interest in the spatial factors associated with food and eating and is investigating the complex interactions between geographical location and food and eating, and the extent to which intra-national migration is statistically associated with changes in food and eating.
