About the workshop leader
This workshop is led by Mike Bryant, Staff Counselor at Goldsmiths. An accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (working to its ethical framework), Mike is a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist and a mental health professional with over 30 years experience in both the USA and UK. Mike also has qualifications and a background in social work. 

Outline
Organised in conjunction with the Staff Counselling Service, this workshop is an introduction for all staff on personal management of stress and anxiety in the workplace. The workshop will provide the antidote to the stresses and strains of working life that can spill over into into our home lives (and vice versa). In a supportive, confidential and constructive environment, participants can share their experiences and develop practical steps that can be put into action right away. Handouts will be provided but bring a pen and paper if you would like to take notes.

Outcomes
Following this two and a half hour workshop, participants will:

  • understand the nature and causes of stress and our responses to it
  • develop practical stress management and self-care strategies and ways of attending to individual needs
  • have explored and experienced relaxation techniques
  • developed listening skills and ways of supporting others
  • share individual experiences around stress in a supportive, confidential and constructive environment
  • have learnt a simple self-hypnosis skill to enhance relaxation and overcome personal obstacles.
