PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Who is this workshop for?
All members of staff with a frontline role within the University and who feel they would enjoy and benefit from it.
About the workshop leaders
Guy Michaels and David Windle together form Opposite Leg Creative Company. Both are professionally trained and experienced actors and fully qualified teachers. Their work includes helping professionals to improve communication and presentation skills, including how to develop 'presence' and successfully engage an audience.
Outline
Work places constant demands on our reserves of energy; it is when we are at our most tired that we are most at risk of straining our voice and body. It is vital to have techniques to hand for maintaining and looking after ourselves, especially in a role which requires a large amount of face to face communication or public speaking. Participants in this workshop will be lead through the techniques used by professional stage actors to develop an open, alive and responsive style of communication and an easy, relaxed presence in any setting.
Participants will tune into their own feedback mechanisms to develop a more intuitive relationship to their voice and body, leading to a feeling of rejuvenation and a sense of personal control. The workshop helps participants to relax and function in a manner which minimises stress and maximises their efficacy.
Outcomes
By the end of this workshop, participants will:
- have a clear understanding of your qualities as a communicator
- have begun to develop a receptive and playful approach to communication
- hold enhanced communication skills
- possess greater confidence in public speaking
- be able to use clear techniques for managing the stress placed on your voice and body
