Rostropovich day at Wigmore Hall
A Chamber Music Festival to commemorate the late Russian cellist and conductor, Mstislav Rostropovich is being held at Wigmore Hall on Saturday 2 May.
Goldsmiths has had a long association with Rostropovich; he conducted a masterclass in the Council Chamber of Deptford Town Hall Building and in 2000 the College presented him with his University of London Honorary Doctorate. Goldsmiths has also established The Rostropovich Scholarship for gifted string players – the initiative was strongly supported by the Maestro himself. The chamber music programmes at the Wigmore Hall will be focused on Rostropovich’s lesser-known roles as a chamber musician, pianist, composer and arranger. Tickets are available from Wigmore Hall box office on 020 7935 2142 or visit www.wigmore-hall.org.uk where you can also find the full programme of events. Students can attend the event for the reduced price of £4.
The Final of The Centre for Russian Music’s inaugural VTB Capital Prize for Young Cellists will also take place in Wigmore Hall during the morning.
Wigmore Hall is at 36 Wigmore Street, London W1U 2BP.
