Stand Down
Through active service, soldiers develop reflexive habits from their training and experiences. Upon their return from operational duty, soldiers have to re-acclimatise mentally and “deprogram” themselves.
Whilst on front-line operations, soldiers have their weapons with them at all times, habitually checking to ensure that they are close by their side. This ritual remains when they come to the end of their tour; unconsciously seeking the reassurance of their weapons.
My designs aid soldiers’ gradual adjustment back into “normal” life, acting to provide a substitute, and involving the support of their other half as part of this decompression process.
