In considering how graphics influence the various uses of space that people make, I set out to test whether superstition can alter how people approach life.

The objective was to design an artifact that would successfully alter subliminal thoughts and create a positive emotional response in the viewer.

My “Mr Magpie” solution acts as a modern day memorial both posing a question and informing the answer. By locating a single magpie in spaces where the motive or context is obvious, I invite the viewer to recall the ‘One for Sorrow’ rhyme and connect with the underlying historic reason for its placement.
