Lena Elhassan Veiling: Unveiled What is the concept of veiling? What does it convey? Is it a statement for a state of mind? Does it scream out ‘I’m Muslim, stay away from me’? What is its purpose and does it serve to it? Does it challenge ‘Western’ society? Is it an object of suspicion? The veil could be seen as a symbolic division between the ‘West’ and ‘East’ evoking many misconceptions about the characterisation of the person behind it. This project aims to ‘loosen’ the idea of veiling, bridging the gap between the secular and non-secular cultures coexisting in one State. lenaelhassan@gmail.com |
