Please Note:

In order to be assessed for your Bursary you should complete your funding application through Student Finance England as soon as possible. You will then receive notifcation once your bursary has been approved.

Consent to Share:

In order for Goldsmiths to be able to approve your Bursary, both you and your sponsors (usually your parents) must give the SLC consent to share your financial information with the college.

The Goldsmiths Bursary scheme was established to provide additional financial support for students from low income backgrounds who may otherwise be disadvantaged or deterred from coming to study at Goldsmiths.

Please note that your eligibility for a bursary will not affect any entitlement to student finance from the government.

Further Information

How do I apply?

You do not have to complete a separate application form for the bursary.

You will be AUTOMATICALLY assessed for it when you make your application for student finance (e.g. student tuition fee loan / maintenance loan / maintenance grant).

When will I receive confirmation of the bursary?

You will receive a letter confirming your bursary in early September 2012 or within 3 weeks of your maintenance grant/special support grant being approved - whichever is later. The letter will be sent to the address you have registered with the Student Loan Company (and not to the one registered with Goldsmiths).

When will I be paid?

Bursaries are paid out in 3 instalments over the academic year.  The expected payment dates are as follows:

  • 25 January 2013
  • 28 March 2013
  • 23 May 2013

Please note that these dates are subject to change, and that the exact dates will be supplied in your confirmation letter.

What's the deadline to be considered for a bursary?

Please ensure that you apply for and SECURE your maintenance or special support grant by 23 May 2013 in order to claim the maximum bursary, as after this date, we will only pay the mandatory minimum bursary to eligible students.  The mandatory minimum, as set by the government, is £347 for students with a household income of £25,000 or less.

No bursaries will be approved (including mandatory minimum bursaries) after the end of the academic year which is 14 June 2013.

What else do I need to know?

If your student support financial assessment of your household income changes during the year, so will your bursary entitlement, for example, if your household income increases and drops to a lower bursary threshold as a result.  If we have already paid you one or more instalments based on your original assessment and you have been overpaid as a result, then we will take action to recover any amounts due.

The bursary is not payable to students who are not in full-time attendance (e.g. if you withdraw, interrupt or repeat a year on a part-time basis). If you receive one or more instalments of your bursary during a period of non-attendance or after you have withdrawn, then we will take action to recover any amounts due.

If you have any debts to the College, we reserve the right to withhold any part of your bursary that is over the statutory minimum and apply it directly to your debt.  The statutory minimum bursary is £338 for students with a household income of less than £25,000.

Who can I contact for further information?

If you have any questions about the process, please email fees@gold.ac.uk.

Bursary Cancellation Letter

If you have received a bursary CANCELLATION LETTER, this could be because you are being reassessed by Student Finance (in which case you will automatically be reassessed for the bursary at a later stage), or because you are no longer eligible for the bursary based on the criteria set out on this page.
