Berthe Fortin

Berthe is Costume Technician for the Department of Theatre and Performance, providing practical and conceptual support in the use of costume in performance through design and making. She manages the Costume Store and resources to support learning and teaching.

Berthe is a designer and maker for theatre, site-specific and immersive performances, art films, and community inclusive theatre and opera. Previous experience includes costume design for dreamthinkspeak and Brighton Festival productions, Before I Sleep, recipient of Peter Brook/Empty Space/Equity Ensemble Award 2010, and The Rest is Silence, the latter also co-commissioned by LIFT and the Royal Shakespeare Company World Premiere. Berthe has worked with the immersive theatre company LOTOS Collective (Camus Live Art), Sabotage Theatre Company and Glyndebourne Festival and regularly collaborates with the artist Adam James on costume-based performances.

Berthe is currently doing a PhD on the role of design and crafting of costume in the creation of performance. She previously studied Costume Design for Performance at London College of Fashion.
