Undergraduate scholarships

Available to full-time home and EU students (unless otherwise stated) for 2012 entry. If you’re eligible for more than one, you’ll receive the highest of those awards):

National Scholarship Programme

What are they?

  • 65 awards of £6,000 to students from low income households who show great academic potential
  • A maximum of £1,000 can be taken as a cash bursary
  • There will be four awards per academic department; the remaining awards will be open on a competitive basis across the whole College

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • have a residual household income of £25,000 or less (as assessed by the Student Loans Company)
  • have 'firmly' accepted your offer of a place at Goldsmiths
  • be undertaking your first undergraduate degree
  • be domiciled in England
  • not be directly progressing from one programme to another (eg from foundation level)
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees

Lewisham Fee Waivers

What are they?

  • Ten £9,000 fee waivers for Lewisham's brightest talent, covering their entire undergraduate career

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • be a resident of the London Borough of Lewisham
  • be undertaking your first undergraduate degree
  • demonstrate academic potential
  • not be in receipt of any other sponsorship for tuition fees
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths

How do I apply?

Your application will need to include a supporting statement explaining how the award will support your aspirations and how you plan to contribute to university life, and a reference from your teacher/adviser or a recognised professional.

How am I assessed?

  • We'll take account of your potential as well as your academic achievements to date
  • We'll invite shortlisted applicants to a panel interview
Mature Students' Scholarships

What are they?

  • Up to ten awards of £3,000 for students over the age of 25 who come from a non-traditional academic background and show great academic potential
  • The awards are available as a partial fee waiver or a cash bursary
  • Two awards will be ring-fenced for students progressing from our Open Book programme

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • be over the age of 25 on the first day you start your degree
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths
  • be undertaking your first undergraduate degree
  • be a UK student
  • demonstrate academic potential

Your application will need to include a supporting statement explaining how you have come to re-engage with learning, what your aspirations are, and how the award could support your learning.

How am I assessed?
A panel will make a decision based on your supporting statement.

Disabled Students' Scholarships

What are they?

  • Up to four awards of £4,500 to students with a disability
  • The awards are available as a fee waiver or a cash bursary

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • have a recognised disability that has affected your educational life
  • have disclosed your disability on your UCAS application
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths
  • be a UK student
  • be undertaking your first undergraduate degree

Priority will be given to applicants demonstrating some, or all, of the following:

  • that the disability will lead to increased costs associated with studying at Goldsmiths
  • that these costs are unlikely to be covered by funding available to the applicant (for example, all disabled students will be expected to apply for a Disabled Students' Allowance)
  • that the disability has affected previous study and/or previous opportunities in general
  • that the funding will be used to enhance the inclusion of the applicant and/or other disabled students
  • that they are facing financial hardship prior to starting the programme at Goldsmiths

Your application will need to include a supporting statement explaining how your disability has, or could, hinder your ability to achieve academically, and how the award could support your learning.

A panel will assess your academic merit and individual need.

Care Leavers' Scholarships

What are they?

  • Up to five awards of £4,000 value to students who are care leavers
  • The awards are available as either a partial fee waiver, a cash bursary, or 'in kind' support (eg for accommodation costs, computing equipment, books)

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • be a care leaver (someone who has been in the Care of your Local Authority for a period of 13 weeks or more, including during your 16th birthday)
  • have disclosed yourself as a care leaver on your UCAS application
  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths
  • be a UK student
  • be undertaking your first undergraduate degree
  • be under the age of 25 at the start of the degree

Your application will need to include a supporting statement explaining how your background of care has challenged you and how the award could support you in higher education.

A panel will make a decision based on your supporting statement.

Goldsmiths Undergraduate Excellence Scholarships

What are they?

  • An award of £1,000 for each year of continuous full-time study to anyone who achieves AAB in their A-levels, or equivalent.

Am I eligible?
You must:

  • be holding an offer of a place at Goldsmiths
  • achieve AAB in your A-levels, or equivalent
  • be eligible for student funding

How do I apply?
The scholarship is automatically allocated to eligible students.

 Lord Mayor's Sir John Cass Foundation Scholarships

What are they?

  • Three to five awards of £7,000 for students on computing- or design-based degrees
  • This scheme is externally funded and assessed

Am I eligible?
We'll post eligibility details in September 2012.

How do I apply?
You have to enrol on a relevant programme before you can apply for this scholarship. We'll post further details in September 2012.

How am I assessed?
We'll post assessment details in September 2012.

Eliahou Dangoor Scholarships

What are they?

  • Up to 33 scholarships for talented prospective students who want to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects
  • If you're a full-time student you'll receive £1,000 for the first year of your programme (£500 for part-time students)

  • If you applied for one of the eligible programmes by the UCAS deadline of 15 January 2012 you'll automatically be considered for the award
