Department of Visual Cultures

Careers and Employability

On completion of their courses, postgraduate visual cultures students take up a wide variety of creative and professional roles within contemporary art and culture across the globe. Indeed, many of our alumni have set up independent cultural initiatives that foster new types of exhibitions and publications.

The College and the Department offer a wide range of workshops, seminars and other learning opportunities focused on personal and professional development, employability, entrepreneurship and collaborative cultural practice. Many of our students also undertake further postgraduate study (MPhil/ PhD), not only in Art History and Visual Cultures, but also in related fields such as philosophy, cultural studies and literature.

Careers obtained by recent MA and PhD graduates include: director of independent performance festivals, curators, collections manager, art dealer’s assistant, researcher, lecturer, museum assistant, TV production assistant, public relations officer, rights and marketing executive.
