Student Leadership

Description

Student Ambassadors are employed by the University to promote and enhance its reputation to prospective students and their influencers. Student Ambassadors undergo a range of training which includes making effective presentations, and working with young people. They are key to the delivery of activities which include events, campus tours, summer schools, college visits, and open days.

Criteria

  • Worked at least 30 hours as a Student Ambassador
  • Completed core training and on-line Educare programme (this only needs to be completed once)
  • Been involved in at least 3 different types of activity
  • Attended relevant training where possible.

Description

Student Ambassador PLUS recognises those actively engaged in a high level and diverse range of activity.

Criteria

  • Worked at least 50 hours as a Student Ambassador
  • Completed core training and on-line Educare programme (this only needs to be completed once in your first year as an ambassador)
  • Been involved in at least 5 different types of activity
  • Been actively engaged in one of the following programmes: Ambassador Mentoring, Goldstars, Goldsmiths Progression Scheme or Realising Opportunities, or worked on a long-term placement in an academic department or at a partner institution (school, college etc)
  • Attended relevant training where possible

Goldsmiths Students' Union

Description

Student Trustees are elected via a cross-campus ballot. They are a member of the highest standing committee of the Union, where they oversee the running of the Students Union, ensure its legal compliance and decide on key financial matters.

Criteria

To gain recognition on your HEAR, you must have attended 75% of the Unions Trustee Board and Subcommittees.

Description

As Student Representative this student has acted as an essential link between students, the Students’ Union and the University. Student Representatives are responsible for gathering and reporting on feedback from students on their programme to Departmental Student Coordinators.

Criteria

To gain recognition on your HEAR, you must have

  • Been elected to the role in accordance with departmental procedures
  • Completed training provided by the Students' Union
  • Attended required Staff/Student Forum meetings
  • Filled in termly feedback in format required by the Students' Union

Description

As Department Student Coordinator (DSC), this student acted as a departmental representative, representing the academic views of students to their departments, the University and the Students' Union, via the attendance of committees, producing reports and making presentations.

Criteria

To gain recognition on your HEAR you must have

  • Been appointed to the role in accordance with Students' Union procedures
  • Submitted two termly feedback reports to the Students' Union completed individually
  • Attended Student Staff Forums as well as other departmental meetings where required
  • Actively seek and give feedback to students and staff in their department

Funding: Students will receive a bursary as part of this role 

Description

Led by the SU Sabbatical Officers, CARE Ambassadors support the CARE Project, a culture change initiative that works to eradicate sexual violence from the Goldsmiths community.

CARE Ambassadors complete training (consisting of the Consent Matters online course and an Active Bystander Training workshop); serve on the CARE Steering Committee (offering student input to inform the strategy and priorities of the Project); and participate in at least 30 hours of volunteering on CARE initiatives (including event management, community building, and campaigns work).

CARE Ambassadors learn how to implement culture-change projects collaboratively with a trauma-informed and survivor-centred approach.

Criteria

  • Complete the Consent Matters online course and attend an Active Bystander Training workshop
  • Attend a minimum of 3 of 5 CARE Steering Committee meetings throughout the year
  • Volunteer 30 hours to support the activities of the CARE project
  • Submit a reflective log with guidance from the Education Officer and CARE Project Coordinator

Description

Peer Facilitators are responsible for delivering trauma-informed and survivor-centred active bystander workshops to the Goldsmiths community and beyond. They also support ongoing evaluation and promotion of the CARE Project.

Criteria

  • Attend Peer Facilitator Training which includes trauma-informed facilitation and self-care as a facilitator
  • Participate in weekly team meetings
  • Lead trauma-informed Active Bystander workshops for the Goldsmiths community and beyond
  • Participate in project outreach activities such as holding stalls across campus
  • Provide ongoing feedback and support evaluation of the CARE Project.

Description

Part-time elected Students' Union Officers are elected via a cross-campus ballot. It is a voluntary position. As a Part-time Students' Union Officer this student represented students according to the remit and manifesto that they have been elected upon via attendance at University committees and the Student Assembly.

Criteria

To gain recognition on your HEAR, you must have attended 50% of relevant committees, inclusive of Student Assembly and University Committees.

Library

Description

Student Library Reps (SLRs) attend training to design and execute a Library User Experience project. SLRs will learn about service and collection development, cataloguing\classification or information literacy teaching. They will gain transferable skills and experience in project management, communications and evaluating data.

Application deadline: Wed 15 November 11.59pm

Criteria

  • Attend an initial training session
  • Complete User Experience project
  • Attend at least 1 catch up meeting with library staff
  • Attend 1 of the 4 activities
  • Present the findings from their User Experience project at the mini conference, or alternatively a 3–5-minute video report or equivalent blog post
  • Evaluate the project experience

Student accommodation

Description

Resident Experience Co-ordinators are trained student staff who assist the accommodation team in creating a community amongst students living in halls. They plan and deliver a range of activities from Wellbeing Walks, Open Days, and social media campaigns and submit written reports to the Resident Life Team. They develop skills in administration, team working, report writing, communication and working under pressure.

Criteria

  • Attend additional training sessions as necessary
  • Provide 6 hours of work per week on event planning and delivering, as well as working on social media, attending campus events (for example, Open Days) and running drop-in sessions for other residents
  • Meet with Accommodation Services on a weekly basis to provide feedback and evaluation
  • Participate in debriefing sessions
  • Be an active participant in Welcome Week, Move out and Move in, open days & applicant days (additional activity)

Gold Award

Description

The Gold Award is a one year personal and professional development programme. The Gold Award Ambassador assists with the Award including organisation of the events, promoting the award through social media, administration, supporting students currently on the programme to develop their skills, experience and self-awareness. Through this activity the Ambassador develops communication, public speaking and organisation skills.

Criteria

  • Successfully complete the 1 year Gold Award Ambassador contract with the Careers Service
  • Work approx. 10 hours a week in the role during term time
  • Successfully conduct drop-in sessions with Gold Award students
  • Actively support all Gold Award events, workshops and award ceremonies that are required throughout the year
