The platform is open to current students and staff as well as alumni and former staff. Administrators in the Development and Alumni Office verify all registrations.
Is Goldsmiths Connect just for mentoring?
It allows its members to network, share expertise, post jobs and pose discussions. It is a great tool for developing longer-term mentoring relationships, but we expect many users will simply access the platform to explore the varied careers of our alumni, staff and students.

A Closer Look
How do I edit my profile?
Visit ‘My Profile’ and in the top right-hand corner of your profile image, you can click on an option called ‘Edit Profile’. This is where you can update your profile photo, personal info (like your email address), change your membership (from student to alumni), add your social network details or change your mentorship settings. You can do the same in the ‘About Me’, ‘Education History’ or ‘Employment History’ sections.
What is the ‘Timeline’?
The ‘Timeline’ feature is designed to help you keep track of your mentoring milestones. Your mentor can also post here and help you to monitor your progress.
I am not a member of Goldsmiths Connect but would like to post a job – how do I do this?
If you are not eligible to join Goldsmiths Connect but would like to advertise a job for students and/or graduate please contact Careers Service at careers (@gold.ac.uk).
What resources are available?
Like most features, you can post your own resources to share with members of Goldsmiths Connect. This could be a file you upload or a web link. Please tag your resource to help others find them. You will also find a range of useful careers-related resources posted by Goldsmiths or other users.
Why be a part of a group?
The groups are a way of having specific conversations with members who have a shared interest. That might be location, industry or a lot more. Groups can be private or open to all. If you are setting up a group it will need to be approved by an administrator in the first instance.
How do I choose a mentor?
On the homepage, you will find matches based on the criteria you selected when you registered. You can change these criteria at any stage via your profile page. You can also search under the ‘People’ section and filter by locations, skills, education or employment details.
How should I approach a mentor?
You will need to submit an application that outlines the kind of mentoring relationship you are interested in. Before approaching or establishing a mentorship, it is the responsibility of the mentee to outline:
- What they want out of the relationship
- A general structure for meetings, conversations and take-away tasks
How much time do I need to commit to being a mentor or a mentee?
It is up to each member to decide their time commitment and the format of the mentoring relationship. Both mentor and mentee will be matched on this basis.
Why haven’t I heard back from my mentor or mentee?
If you send a message, your mentee or mentor will receive a notification but there may be a good reason they haven’t been able to get back to you. If it has been more than a few weeks and you’ve already sent a gentle reminder, please contact alumni (@gold.ac.uk) and we will get in touch on your behalf.
How do I end my mentoring relationship?
Some mentoring relationships continue for a long time and others serve their purpose a lot sooner. The timeline feature will help you establish goals and keep track of your mentoring relationship.
You can end mentoring at any stage. You may feel that your mentor has provided all the advice you can or your mentee may feel like they need to reach out to mentors who can offer a different perspective. Please discuss with your mentee or mentor first so that you can bring the mentoring to a constructive end. You can manage this in the ‘Timeline’ section of Goldsmiths Connect.
