After you leave Goldsmiths, you can have a free alumni email account. Use it to keep in touch with friends or provide a professional email address for CVs and job applications.
Although you can apply to keep your email account, 120 days after your course ends* you will lose access to Shibboleth, learn.gold (VLE) and other Office 365 services, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Drive, as these services are not available to alumni.
Please note that converting your gold.ac.uk is not the same as joining the alumni mailing list. If you have already signed up to the alumni mailing list, you will still need to apply to convert your email address.
*Your course end date will always be before the date of your graduation - the 120 days starts from the course end date, not your graduation.
Left 1 June 2020 onwards
Application to convert your gold.ac.uk email to an alumni email is now open. Please complete this survey before Wednesday 30 September 2020 to apply.
If you don't apply above, your gold.ac.uk email will automatically deactivate at 120 days from your course end date. Your email history and contacts will be deleted at this point – we encourage you to save important emails, documents and contacts as these cannot be retrieved after deactivation.
Left before 31 May 2020
The deadline to keep your Goldsmiths Alumni Email account has passed. If you applied, you would have received an email confirmation and your account will convert at 120 days from your course end date.
If you didn't apply, your gold.ac.uk email will automatically deactivate at 120 days from your course end date. Your email history and contacts will be deleted at this point – we encourage you to save important emails, documents and contacts as these cannot be retrieved after deactivation.
How Alumni Email works
Your email address will be changed to alumni.gold.ac.uk if you applied before the deadline to convert your gold.ac.uk account.
You will still receive emails sent to your gold.ac.uk address but any replies will come from alumni.gold.ac.uk.
Login to email as before with your Goldsmiths IT username, e.g. jblog001, and password. You will not have access to Shibboleth, learn.gold (VLE) or other Office 365 services, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and One Drive, as these services are not available to alumni.
If you were a PhD student, your account will change from the current format, e.g. email@example.com, to (your username)@alumni.gold.ac.uk, e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you withdrew from your programme, your gold.ac.uk email will automatically be deleted, including email history and contacts. We are unable to reactivate your account; however, you can put in a request for a new alumni email once applications open.
If you become employed by Goldsmiths, you will be given a separate staff account. Due to data protection, you are not able to keep your staff account once your contract ends. Please ensure that you are using your staff account for work-related matters.
If you return to study at Goldsmiths, you will either
- be given a new student email account if your student email account was deleted, or
- continue to use the same student email account if it was previously converted to an alumni account.
Problems accessing email and password reset
If you are unable to access your email and it is not password related, email alumni (@gold.ac.uk) for help. The Development and Alumni Office will forward your request to the IT Service Desk, who will be in touch.

Password reset if you left Goldsmiths after 01 January 2017
If you left Goldsmiths after 01 January 2017 and have applied to keep your Goldsmiths email, you can reset your password using One Identity Password Manager if you have previously set up your security questions.
We recommend trying One Identity Password Manager in the first instance. If you are still unable to reset your password, email alumni (@gold.ac.uk) for us to verify your alumni status and put in a request on your behalf with IT Service Desk.
Password reset if you left Goldsmiths before 31 December 2016
If you left before 31 December 2016 and have applied to keep your Goldsmiths email, you can request to set up your security questions to reset your password using One Identity Password Manager.
Email alumni (@gold.ac.uk) and include your full name, programme, year you left and email we have on file for you. We can then verify your details and put in a request on your behalf with IT Service Desk.
Restoring deactivated accounts
Once an email account is deactivated, all emails and contacts are deleted and cannot be restored.
Due to a high volume of requests, application for creating a new alumni email is currently closed.
Once you have completed your course and become an alumnus of Goldsmiths, you no longer have access to your student VLE account.
