Alumni email & IT access

Student page

After leaving Goldsmiths, you can access a free alumni email. Use it to keep in touch with friends or provide a professional email address for CVs and job applications.

At 120 days after your course ends* you will lose access to Shibboleth, learn.gold (VLE) and other Office 365 services such as One Drive. You can keep your email.

Please note that converting your @gold.ac.uk is not the same as joining the alumni mailing list. If you have signed up to the alumni mailing list, you will still need to apply to convert your email address.

*Please note your course end date will always be before the date of your graduation. 

December 2019 onwards graduates


Application to convert your @gold.ac.uk email to an Alumni Email is now open.
The deadline to apply is Tuesday, 31 March 2020. 

If you don't apply above, your @gold.ac.uk email will automatically deactivate at 120 days from your course end date. Your email history and contacts will be deleted at this point – we encourage you to save important emails, documents and contacts as these cannot be retrieved after deactivation.

Left before November 2019

The deadline to keep your Goldsmiths Alumni Email account has passed. If you applied, you would have received an email confirmation and your account will convert at 120 days from your course end date.

If you didn't apply, your @gold.ac.uk email will automatically deactivate at 120 days from your course end date. Your email history and contacts will be deleted at this point – we encourage you to save important emails, documents and contacts as these cannot be retrieved after deactivation.

How Alumni Email works

Your email address will be changed to @alumni.gold.ac.uk if you applied before the deadline to convert your @gold.ac.uk account.

You will still receive emails sent to your @gold.ac.uk address but any replies will come from @alumni.gold.ac.uk.

Login into email as before with your Goldsmiths IT username, e.g. jblog001, and password. You will not have access to Shibboleth, learn.gold (VLE) or other Office 365 services such as One Drive as these services are not available to alumni.

If you were a PhD student, your account will change from the current format e.g. j.blog@gold.ac.uk, which is reserved for current PhD students and staff, to (your username)@alumni.gold.ac.uk, e.g. jblog001@alumni.gold.ac.uk.

If you withdrew from your programme, your @gold.ac.uk email will automatically be deleted, including email history and contacts. We unfortunately are unable to reactivate your account; however, you can put in a request for a new alumni email once applications open in May 2020.

If you become employed by Goldsmiths, you will be given a separate staff account. Due to data protection, you are not able to keep your staff account once your contract ends. Please ensure that you are using your staff account for work-related matters.

If you return to study at Goldsmiths, you will either be given a new student email account if your student email account was deleted or continue to use the same student email account if it was converted to an alumni account.

Restoring deactivated accounts

Once an email is deactivated, all emails and contacts are deleted and cannot be restored.

Due to a high volume of request, application for creating a new alumni email is currently closed and will not open until May 2020.

Problems accessing email

If you're unable to sign into your account, email alumni (@gold.ac.uk) for help. The Development and Alumni Office will forward your request to Service Desk, who will be in touch. Please note that the IT Service Desk is unable to receive email from non-Goldsmiths accounts.

learn.gold (VLE)

Once you have completed your course and become an alumni of Goldsmiths, you no longer have access to your student VLE account. It is also not possible to access the VLE unless you are a current student or member of staff.
