Exchange programmes

Berlin Weißensee/Goldsmiths exchange programme

Following our highly successful exchange with the ICA Moscow over the summer this autumn the MFA programme at Goldsmiths has linked up with Kunsthochschule Weißensee and LoBe Berlin to facilitate academic and artistic exchange. Two students from Goldsmiths will attend the class of Professor Hannes Brunner at Weißensee and present their work at the college as well as attending classes and having full access to Weißensee's facilities.

They will then host two students from Weißensee who will join the Goldsmiths programme of seminars and tutorials with time, of course, in both cities for gallery visits and social exchange. The exchange has been conceived in association with LoBe Berlin whose director, Olivia Reynolds, is also an alumni of the Goldsmiths MFA programme. As well as generously providing accommodation for students in both cites LoBe will host a joint residency at their Berlin gallery in April 2014 with a public exhibition of work conceived and executed by programme participants.

Those participants are, from Goldsmiths, Gretchen Geraets and David Bance and from Weißensee Bianca Benenti and Lena Marie Emrich. The programme participants were chosen from a proposal-based competition in both colleges by a jury consisting of Nick Crowe (Goldsmiths), Professor Hannes Brunner (Weißensee), David Mabb (Goldsmiths) and Professor Albrecht Schäfer (Weißensee).

ICA Moscow/Goldsmiths exchange programme

Goldsmiths and the ICA Moscow have set up an exchange programme for MFA Fine Art and Art Writing Students sponsored by the Tsukanov Family Foundation. The idea behind it is to enable five students a year from Moscow to travel to Goldsmiths for a week to ten days during the Summer Term to participate in the life of the Department, and conversely for five of our MFA Students to travel to Moscow and then to a Dacha in Vishniy Volochek in late July, to participate in the ICA Moscow Summer School.

The Tsukonov Family Foundation has very generously offered to pay for all the flights to and from Moscow, and travel to the summer school. We are hugely grateful for their generosity. The exchange programme will provide 10-12 students each year with the opportunity to work in very different art education environments and to develop valuable friendships and contacts in Moscow and London. The Department treats the summer school places as awards, which are chosen on a competitive basis by the Programme Leader of the MFA Fine Art and the Head of Department.
