Event overview
Centre for Investigative Journalism
In the wake of President Trump, there’s been a welcome resurgence of interest in investigative journalism in the United States. But what should its role be? Lowell Bergman, one of the world’s most famous and respected investigative journalists alive whose investigation into the tobacco industry inspired the film The Insider, comes to London to discuss the state of investigative journalism and the dilemmas which confront the profession, including the growing information war between the US and Russia over leaks, hacks and new media propaganda. As the world lurches towards another superpower confrontation, Bergman asks - what are the tasks which face investigative journalists today, and where do the real stories lie?
Lowell Bergman is the Reva and David Logan Distinguished Chair in Investigative Reporting at the Graduate School of Journalism in Berkeley, California. He will be in conversation with James Harkin, Director of the CIJ.
Tuesday 10 October, 630pm. Free event, no booking. Centre for Investigative Journalism, Ian Gulland Lecture Theatre, Goldsmiths, 8 Lewisham Way, London SE14 6NW
