Event overview
“we rehearsed…we was serious…they’re my girls”: visibility, abjection and resistance for black working class girls in the marketised inner London college
In this session, Camilla will draw on her doctoral research exploring processes of educational exclusion and pedagogies of hope with young black women studying vocational courses in an inner London college.
She discusses how the young women were constructed as un-seeable within their marketised institution, and how they mobilised their own forms of visibility and presence within this covertly racist, heterosexist and classist terrain. She will also critically discuss and invite dialogue around the role that she did, and could, play in these processes as a white middle class teacher-researcher.
