A night of comedy and open conversation about mental health, courtesy of Dave Chawner
Come and join us at Goldsmiths Student's Union for a night of comedy and open conversation about mental health, courtesy of Dave Chawner.
This event is running alongside several related talks which are all being held in support of Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2018. In putting on this series of events, we hope to open up the conversation about a widely misunderstood issue, to break down common stereotypes and address the stigma around eating disorders. We also want to provide key information and practical tools with which to approach this issue, and to create a safe, supportive environment in which anyone can access the right advice and support.
Dave is an award winning comic, author, campaigner and ambassador for the charity Beat, who is breaking down the stigma around mental health and eating disorders in our society. His new show ‘Mental’ takes a light hearted look at mental health; something everyone has, rather than mental illness which often has a negative association. As someone who has suffered from an eating disorder himself, Dave hopes to create an environment where eating disorders, and mental health, are no longer a taboo subject.
When asked, what are your reasons for doing this show at Universities? Dave said; “During University I wished someone had shown me that my relationship with food had become disordered. I want to go around campuses and faculties in order to try and raise awareness of eating disorders in a light-hearted, non-preachy way to try and help people who are just like I was”.
Attendance is free but open to donations - please register your attendance on the hyperlink below and visit our JustGiving page to contribute. All funds raised will go directly to Beat (UK's leading eating disorder charity) to support the fantastic work they do to end suffering caused by eating disorders.
