Event overview
Damian Owen-Board's current research exhibition.
After the Trojan Horses brings together pieces from Damian Owen-Board's ongoing research examining queerness and ‘othering’ in the institutionalised space. By photographing elaborately constructed sculptural elements in various interchangeable bureaucratic locations, he eschews the everyday banality of these locations through juxtapositions that create an uneasy sense of chaos and wonder. These interventions play on both clichés of camp culture (pink, glitter, flowers, etc) and historical homophobic fears of queerness as an invading force intent on taking over and corrupting the ‘normal’ world. They interrogate the institution as an architecturally and sociologically constructed site of heteronormativity and present queerness as a disruptive force subverting that hegemony – creating something new and literally sparkling in its place.
