Event overview
Debate, dispute, discuss: journalism uncovered
Who are Africa's news gatekeepers? Whose voices do we hear and why?
Dr Kate Wright and Omega Douglas discuss this in the light of their recent research. They will be joined by journalists Aaron Akinyemi (BBC World Service, Africa Eye), Monica Mark (West Africa correspondent, BuzzFeed) and Eliza Anyangwe (journalist and founder of The Nzinga Effect).
Dr Kate Wright is a Chancellor's Fellow in the Cultural and Creative Industries at the Centre for African Studies, University of Edinburgh. She completed her PhD in Media and Communications with us in 2015. Her latest book is "Who's Reporting Africa Now? Non-Governmental Organizations, Journalists and Multimedia".
Omega Douglas is working on a PhD in Media and Communications from the Department and has just completed research on International News, NGOs, Race and the Politics of Representation.
Followed by a free drinks reception.
